A human arm is found stuck in a meat grinder, bone from the elbow (one of the strongest bones in the body). Young lady slices her wrists in her bed, appears to be a staged suicide.

- When they see the carnage left in the grinder, they each have a comment. Catherine, “Meat is Murder.” (Second album from the Smiths) And Grissom: “I’m gonna need a hand.” Punny.
- Sara calls Hank ‘baby’ at scene. After just telling Catherine last week he wasn’t her boyfriend. But he doesn’t seem to mind.
- Nice metaphor Grissom uses to describe fingerprint enhancing solution – makes ridges come out like "a chia pet on steroids."
- Arm found in grinder belongs to a head chef at fancy restaurant. While processing the kitchen everybody finds something: Nick finds semen, Catherine cocaine, Grissom blood.
- First appearance of lab technician David Hodges. Transfer from LAPD, he overshares that they said he had an attitude problem.
- Mom of dead girl is played by Marita Geraghty. Nancy from Groundhog Day-- “This is Nancy, she works in the dress shop and makes noises like a chipmunk when she gets *real* excited.” GREAT movie.
Grissom’s Lesson of the Week: To a geologist there’s no such thing as sand, each grain is a tiny rock.
