Crash & Burn, Season 3 #17

An elderly lady drives into a busy restaurant, killing three patrons of the restaurants and herself. Grissom and Nick are called to a house to process a lady who has asphyxiated from a gas leak.

GREG:

  1. Comes into room where Sara is working to share some info with her – Grandmother driving the car was high on marijuana, prompting Greg to recite a list of slang nicknames for grass. Greggo really knows his euphemisms. He is apparently standing too close, as Sara says he is crowding her.
  2. Pages Grissom as James Watson and Nick as Francis Crick, two of the founders of DNA molecular strand.
Striped dress shirt, color unknown. Looks blue and tan. Or may be blue and pink.

REST OF TEAM:

  • Teenage son of dead lady is quite belligerent to Grissom when he tries to talk to him. His room was full of equipment that made Nick call him a science geek. At their second encounter, young man is reading Asimov which Grissom says is one of his favorite writers. His emotionless conversation is kinda creepy.
  • In the gas leak death, husband was giving his wife his sleeping pills crushed up in her ice cream so she’d quit nagging and let him sleep.
  • When discussing why young man sabotaged his parent’s fireplace (because they weren’t going to let him to college) Grissom has to tell him that he forgot to figure in the fact that his father had stopped smoking into his plan. He “stopped observing the human element because you thought it was inferior.”
  • Grandson of lady driving is played by Christopher Gorham, Ugly Betty’s Henry Grubstick.
  • One of the people in the restaurant was Sara’s boyfriend Hank. When Catherine charts who was seating where in the restaurant, she asks Sara who was Elaine that was sitting with Hank. Sara assumes friends until she goes to see Elaine about the case and see Hank’s photo on her coffee table – while they were in Hawaii last year. And Elaine happily tells her about their upcoming trip to Tahiti in two weeks.
  • Insurance agents that Catherine & Sara talk to about the dead grandmother are bureaucratic and unfeeling – and one of them is Elaine. Granny drove into the restaurant by accident, she was intending to hit the insurance company that had denied her benefits for cancer treatment.
  • The Sundays version of ‘Wild Horses’ plays in the closing as Sara & Catherine leave work.
Grissom's Lesson of the Week : Gas company adds the chemical mercaptan to the odorless natural gas so it can be detected.
Lesson #2, contributed by Detective Lockwood : the two most common causes for household geo-poisoning, unvented space heaters and improperly maintained chimneys.

One Hit Wonder, Season 3 #14

A peeping Tom is breaking into apartments and terrorizing girls. Sara reopens the murder case where friend’s husband was killed.

GREG:

Sperm analysis for Catherine, no swimmers. Preview before the movie.

Grey t-shirt with word LIVE visible in middle, rest of words obscured by lab coat. 2nd appearance camera stays high so t-shirt message still a mystery.

REST OF TEAM:

  • Nick keeps trying to talk to Grissom about evidence as they’re processing the scene and Grissom keeps walking off. Funny.
  • Brass and Catherine arrest peeping suspect at the mall. He’s got a spy cam built into his shoe to film up women’s dresses. And he gives Catherine a long look when she turns her back on him.
  • Sara brings bullet to Bobby to process and appears to be totally lying to him that Grissom has approved reopening the case. But maybe not, really isn’t clarified either way.

(Next episode is Lady Heather’s Box which doesn’t play on cable reruns as it was the only 90 minute episode of CSI (so far). And my power went off and next episode, Lucky Strike, didn’t record.) Drat.

Random Acts of Violence, Season 3 #13

A drive-by shooting kills a 9 year old girl that was asleep in her bed. Warrick knows the family and gets emotionally involved in finding who did it. Nick investigates a death at an internet service “thing”- as described by Dectective Vega.

GREG:

  1. Nick has Archie assist with processing computer evidence. Greg is a little jealous that Archie gets to play assistant instead of him. Nick reminds him that he was just using the right tool for the right job, and asks Archie a question about Star Trek to which he gives a complicated answer only a true fanboy would know. No more argument from Greggo.
  2. Flirting with giggly girl as Warrick and Grissom get back to lab with lollipop stick to process. All work and no play make Greg a dull boy. Grissom: all play and no work make Greg an unemployed boy.
Blue t-shirt.

REST OF TEAM:

  • Warrick uses a digital camera processing this scene rather the larger camera we usually see. Permanent upgrade or another free trial?
  • Three employees at the computer company are all very distinct types. Dead guy was their boss and had a tracking program on their computers, tracking activities and keystrokes.
  • Warrick’s jacket as they’re processing says LVPD Crime Scene Investigations. Grissom’s says Forensics. What do I feel like wearing today?
  • No Sara this episode.
  • Father of dead little girl manages a rec center that Warrick went to as a kid. Warrick brings him to the police station as they’re letting the suspect go. Grissom and Brass are not happy with him having the grieving father there during on-going investigation.

Got Murder? Season 3 #12

An eye is found in a raven’s nest (prompting Grissom to quote Poe) and a guy is on the coroner’s table for autopsy but he isn’t dead. When he later passes away, the CSI’s have to figure out what happened.

GREG:

Analysis of samples from house. And snake venom. --two short appearances.

Maroon dress shirt.

REST OF TEAM:

  • Really didn’t want to see Grissom stick a needle in the eye for fluid. Double YICK.
  • Oops. Catherine is taking things out of the birds nest. We watch her take a baby teething ring and adds it to pile on right side. Grissom comes in; camera pans back down to nest and ring is back in nest.
  • Sara says average Nevadan generates 3 times more waste than the average American.
  • Routine autopsy on what is assumed to be a heart attack victim, SuperDave’s initial cut finds blood – this guy isn’t dead.
  • Priest is Michael O’Keefe. Fred from Roseanne.
  • Catherine is processing beds at the dead ladies house - all the CSI’s have this one-armed whoosh they do to move bed covers off a bed to use the ALS lite. Think they teach that in CSI school?

Recipe for Murder, Season 3 #11

A human arm is found stuck in a meat grinder, bone from the elbow (one of the strongest bones in the body). Young lady slices her wrists in her bed, appears to be a staged suicide.

GREG:
Helps Catherine process blood from knives.

Tries to tell Grissom factoid about bacteria, which he already knew~~

Greg: So I guess I should just stop trying to impress you.

Gris: That would impress me Greg.

Solid black dress shirt.

REST OF TEAM:

  • When they see the carnage left in the grinder, they each have a comment. Catherine, “Meat is Murder.” (Second album from the Smiths) And Grissom: “I’m gonna need a hand.” Punny.
  • Sara calls Hank ‘baby’ at scene. After just telling Catherine last week he wasn’t her boyfriend. But he doesn’t seem to mind.
  • Nice metaphor Grissom uses to describe fingerprint enhancing solution – makes ridges come out like "a chia pet on steroids."
  • Arm found in grinder belongs to a head chef at fancy restaurant. While processing the kitchen everybody finds something: Nick finds semen, Catherine cocaine, Grissom blood.
  • First appearance of lab technician David Hodges. Transfer from LAPD, he overshares that they said he had an attitude problem.
  • Mom of dead girl is played by Marita Geraghty. Nancy from Groundhog Day-- “This is Nancy, she works in the dress shop and makes noises like a chipmunk when she gets *real* excited.” GREAT movie.

Grissom’s Lesson of the Week: To a geologist there’s no such thing as sand, each grain is a tiny rock.

High & Low, Season 3 #10

A man falls from a six-story building, with evidence discovering he was dead before the fall. And a single-gunshot-wound victim is found outside pink cocktail lounge/restaurant, shot with his own gun.
GREG:
  1. Looking serious. Catherine asks, any luck with samples? Greg responds: "Luck is for those without skill." Testify.
  2. Epithelials on slashed canopy trace back to nemesis. Warrick and Nick hang out in Greg’s lab discussing theories of case, Greg throws ‘em out. Cranky unhappy Greg.

Tan shirt with dark stripes.

REST OF TEAM:

  • Catherine and O’Reilly’s only witness to the gunshot victim is impatient and surly. But she’s nothing compared to the hostility they encounter at the house of the dead man’s neighbor.
  • Grissom’s hearing problems are worse this episode. He steps back from the case, leaving Nick and Warrick in charge. Meets with doctor where she tells him his hearing has deteriorated since last time and its time to consider surgery.
  • Warrick goes to Leah for help with tattoo from jumper. She shows him a new tattoo of a butterfly, Warrick says his favorite is still the rose – wonder where that ink is? The way those two are looking at each other there’s been a little something-something here.
  • With Grissom MIA, Brass channels him sharing a story with Warrick about seeing sardines falling from the sky when he was in Honduras. He even says he sounds like Grissom, but he does make a point: “they gotta come from somewhere.”
  • Falling victim was a para-glider. Actor playing his nemesis is another BSG alumni, Michael Trucco (played Anders).
  • Strength, superiority and ambition. What tattoo artist says jumper’s tattoo symbolized. And nemesis – his tattoo was the 3 furies: anger, vengeance and jealousy.
  • Tracks Catherine and O'Reilly find in neighbor’s yard is where the dead guy drove into his yard and killed his dog. Which is why they fought and how dead guy got dead. But hitting his dog? Way harsh.
  • Episode’s end- Grissom is reading about hearing conditions and Nick is paragliding off a mountain.
